A huge shoutout goes to the Special Services Department, Principal Davis, Vice-Principal Diggs, Ola Edwards' social workers, teachers, and staff! The families and students also participated in various, fun, games and activities such as coloring and bracelet-making. On the morning of March 26th, 2024, Ola Edwards Community School hosted a Women's History Month/Recognition celebratory event! Students from all grade levels filled the bleachers of the gymnasium alongside their teachers, as Ms. Dale-Rawls presented a few women with a certificate, and praise for their hard work at Ola Edwards Community School! Those honored today included: Principal Mrs. Davis, teachers Ms. Altenor, and Ms. Mannino, Hillside High School Secretary Mrs. Lawler, Hillside NAACP Founder Mrs. Graves-Watson, and Hillside Business Owner Mrs. King! Hillside Public Schools appreciates all of the contributions of our women within the Hillside community. On Thursday, March 21st, the ESL Department, led by Supervisor Evelyn Okparaeke, in collaboration with Ola Edwards Vice Principal, Azure Diggs and Math Supervisor, Rita Della Valle, hosted a ESL Parent Resource Night for Grades 2-6 to engage and inform parents of the resources available for their children specific to their English language needs. This event would not be possible without the dedicated teachers of Ola Edwards, Ms. Altenor, Mrs. Huynh, Ms. Rosamalia, and ESL teacher at Hurden Looker, Mrs. DeJesus who volunteered their time to teach parents about the valuable resources available to our multilingual learners both at school and at home. Special shoutout to Custodian Sunny and Security Guard Mel for all their assistance and to Maschio’s for providing food and refreshments. Being multilingual is a superpower and at Hillside Public Schools we celebrate and honor the diversity of all our students!

Ola Edwards Community School 5th and 6th graders were treated to an awesome assembly earlier this afternoon (3/18/2024)! U.S. Magistrate Judge, Mr. Jose Almonte, visited Ola Edwards Community School to discuss the importance of education in his career, and his incredible journey, from being unable to speak English, to sitting as a Judge in the highest court in New Jersey! Judge Almonte spoke with an ESL student after the assembly as well, having been an ESL student himself as a child, demonstrating that with perseverance and a dream, anything is possible! "Thomas Edison State University (TESU) is a recipient of a grant from the Department of Education (DOE) and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE). The grant, part of the State Dual Enrollment Pilot Program, aims to create and expand high-quality dual enrollment programs across New Jersey school districts...TESU has been selected to collaborate with Hillside Public School District for the Career Connections Carpenter’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program currently being implemented at Hillside. Under this partnership, TESU has formed an articulation agreement with Hillside Public School District. Through TESU’s commitment related to prior learning, TESU recognizes the Career Connections program as equivalent to 16 college-level credits, applicable toward a certificate, associate or bachelor’s program either at TESU or transferrable to another institution." Shoutout to Ola Edwards Community School (OECS), where Nurse Ardino and Social Worker Ms. Sanchez put together an educational program for National Children's Dental Hygiene Month, which is celebrated in February! Staff from Dr. Tina Panchal's office located in Edison, New Jersey, came to educate OECS students on the importance of oral hygiene!
