Today (4/17/2025), Hillside Public Schools and @scholastic hosted their 2025 R.E.A.L. Read Festival! Hundreds of Hillside Public Schools students in grades 4 - 6 from our three elementary schools (Deanna G. Taylor Academy, Hurden Looker Elementary School, and Ola Edwards Community School) filled Woodfield Stadium for a fun-filled day with interactive literacy activities. This event culminated in the celebration of the partnership between Hillside Public Schools and Scholastic, specifically the Scholastic R.E.A.L. (Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead) Mentorship Program! The Scholastic R.E.A.L. Mentorship Program is designed to support families and community members in mentoring students through monthly interactive read-alouds, promote academic and social growth, and make a lasting impact on students’ lives! It was a fun-filled night with Caribbean vibes including Caribbean-themed decorations, food provided by @maschiofood, outfits, and more! Students explored the relationship between primary and secondary colors as they blended and separated them using a variety of techniques. Construction of Hillside Public Schools District’s Deanna G. Taylor Academy Modular Addition has been completed! On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the New Wing's official grand opening/ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Deanna G. Taylor Academy! Hillside Public Schools Board of Education members, administrators, principals, partners, staff, Hillside township dignitaries, and family members of Deanna G. Taylor were all in attendance for the marvelous event! A special thank you to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Best, Bishop Assemblyman Reginald Atkins, Principal of Deanna G. Taylor Academy Mr. Graham, Vice-Principal Budhu, the Office of the Superintendent, the Building and Grounds Department, the Technology Department, and Maschios Food Services!
The 6,600-square-foot addition to Deanna G. Taylor Academy will enhance learning opportunities for scholars by adding four new classrooms, a new cafeteria, and a multi-purpose visual and performing arts room!

On Saturday, January 18th, 2025, Hillside Public Schools District hosted its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program at Hillside High School. The program was amazing not only because of the exceptional performances by each of our schools' students, as well as the decorative artwork done by Hillside Innovation Academy students, but also because of the high positive energy of the audience! The auditorium was full of parents, Hillside community members, Hillside Board of Education members, Hillside Town Council members, families, staff, and more! Great work to all of our students, including Hillside High School Senior Sarah Auguste who was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event! Shout out to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, U.S. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, Hillside High School Vice-Principals Mrs. Bartholomew and Mr. Emenaka, who all spoke at the ceremony.
